August

The month of peaches and the slow descent of summer. A month of following ‘the Lord of the ancient tale,’ who walks beside us every hour of every day. Be my strength, my song in the night. Of blazing desert sunsets and flying straight into the slowly stirring sunrise. (What joy God must find in painting the sky each morning and evening!) A month of realizing that we cannot be consumed by the fire, for the Lord our God goes before us. To be raised with Christ. That He is, and forever will be, the only truly faithful One. A month of mountain peaks and bitter valleys, of learning to “know quietness in my heart.” Of seeing that He takes us as far as we can bear to go, and no farther, before He gathers us up and carries us close to His heart. A month of dancing butterflies and the scent of wild blackberries on the hot noonday wind. Your gentleness has made me great. The hands of our King are hands that tend and heal, that mend and make everything right, and our hearts can rest forever and a day, without a whisper of fear, in Him. O precious is the flow…that makes me white as snow.

The Lord is my strength and song,

And He has become my salvation.” – Exodus 15:2
