October

A month of crimson and gold, of woodsmoke and windsong in the tops of the trees. Of crisp, dappled, slow mornings steeped in quietude, and dark but luminous evenings. Of writing in coffeeshops with wind whistling round the eaves and La Vie En Rose playing, of falling leaves and birds ever flying south. A month of hard study, and late nights, and reflecting that Jesus didn’t give the devil anything in His life to grab hold of. Of sunrises that took my breath away with their numinous light spilling through rifts in the clouds. Of fellowship, that “public means of grace”, as Elisabeth Elliot called it, and of tasting of the goodness of God. A month of joy, fierce and bright, because we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

“He who has called you is faithful, who also will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:24)
