Glen Eyrie

This weekend brought me back to life in a wondrous way. In a castle in a quiet valley where time truly seemed to stop, beauty flooded in and made all things new. We heard about grace and strength for the journey, about hope in the midst of darkness, about cultivating our “place on earth” for the enrichment of weary pilgrims passing through. Of how to gird ourselves with goodness, beauty, and truth to push back against the looming darkness threatening to overtake this world. That in the darkness, light shines all the brighter. That we must never lose sight of childlike wonder, of awe as we behold the face of our King in the commonplace things surrounding us. Of how one day, a great shadow will depart from the world and “everything sad is going to come untrue.”

We each have a place in the kingdom, friends. YOU have a work of worship to do for the praise of the glory of His name. Pick up your sword and learn how to wield it. Turn your eyes heavenward and keep them firmly fixed there. Let the seasons come and go as they will, as, indeed, they must, but don’t let them tear your roots from the ground. Redeem the time, for the days are evil. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might. Remember that the lives you touch are going to live forever.

There have been times in the past few years when I wondered if my writing was dying, if the little girl who filled page after page with big words and incorrectly placed commas was gone forever, lost somewhere along the way in the relentless crush and clamor of this cynical world. I know now that she is still very much alive, that the gifts that God bestows on us only grow in grace as time flows ever onward. With Him it is always glory to glory, grace to grace, strength to strength. His call will never diminish. Sometimes the barren seasons are imperative for our roots to burrow deep, for our sinews to grow strong, so that we might run with endurance the race that has been set before us. It isn’t just about the destination. So much is to be gleaned from the journey. Further up and further in, dear friends. I’ll see you along the way.
